Anil Agarwal shared his profound personal and professional sorrow following the recent boiler accident at the Singhitarai Power Plant, which claimed 25 lives

KORBA: In an emotional social media post on Monday, April 27, 2026, Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal shared his profound personal and professional sorrow following the recent boiler accident at the Singhitarai Power Plant, which claimed 25 lives.

Reflecting on what he described as the most challenging period of his life, Mr. Agarwal drew a poignant parallel between the industrial tragedy and the personal loss of his son, Agnivesh, earlier this year. He expressed that the pain of such untimely and unnatural deaths is beyond imagination.

Responsibility and Oversight

Addressing the technical aspects of the incident, the Chairman emphasized that the Athena Plant was being operated under stringent safety protocols. The responsibility for its operations and maintenance (O&M) had been entrusted to NGSL—a joint venture between India’s Maharatna PSU, NTPC Limited, and General Electric (GE).

“We outsourced the maintenance and operations of this plant to NGSL, trusting their expertise and established systems. It is heartbreaking that despite such high-level safeguards and partnerships with the country’s most trusted entities, this unfortunate accident occurred,” Agarwal stated.

He compared the situation to a vehicle owner entrusting their car to a professional driver, expecting safety and adherence to rules, only to face an unforeseen disaster.

A Vow of Support

The Vedanta Chairman reiterated that safety remains the core focus of every contract and policy within the group. He assured that Vedanta stands firmly with the affected families during this period of grief.

Concluding his message, he paid a solemn tribute to his son and the 25 colleagues lost in the line of duty, promising continued focus on care, responsibility, and safety across all global operations.
