Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai released ‘Mahtari Vandan Abhinandan’, a book authored by journalist Ms. Nisha Dwivedi, at the Chief Minister’s Residence Office on August 22. Published in two volumes, the book documents the experiences of women who have benefited from the Mahtari Vandan Yojana and the changes the scheme has brought to their lives, particularly in terms of financial security, self-confidence, and self-reliance.

Congratulating Ms. Dwivedi on the publication, Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the Mahtari Vandan Yojana has not only provided regular financial assistance to women but has also strengthened their role in household decision-making. He described the scheme as an important initiative of the State Government towards women’s empowerment.

The Chief Minister said that women are using the monthly assistance for their children’s education, nutrition, healthcare, household requirements and savings. The direct transfer of funds into their bank accounts has contributed to greater financial security and independence.

Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the true success of a public welfare scheme is reflected in the changes it brings to the lives of its beneficiaries. He said ‘Mahtari Vandan Abhinandan’ brings such experiences to the fore and serves as a grassroots document of the scheme’s social and economic impact.

Referring to the scale of the initiative, Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the Mahtari Vandan Yojana was launched in Chhattisgarh in accordance with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s guarantee. Nearly 70 lakh women across the state are receiving financial assistance of Rs 1,000 per month directly into their bank accounts. More than Rs 19,000 crore has been transferred so far through 30 instalments. He added that the State Government is also working towards women’s holistic development through education, healthcare, nutrition, skill development and livelihood opportunities.

Women and Child Development Minister Smt. Laxmi Rajwade appreciated the book, saying it gives voice to the experiences and sentiments of women who benefit from the scheme. She said that assessing the real impact of a welfare initiative requires direct interaction with beneficiaries and an understanding of the changes in their lives.

Smt. Rajwade said that travelling across villages, interacting with women and documenting their experiences is a challenging task. She appreciated Ms Dwivedi’s effort to compile these grassroots accounts and congratulated her on the publication.

Author and journalist Ms Nisha Dwivedi said that the two volumes feature stories of women from different parts of Chhattisgarh. The book highlights how regular financial assistance has helped them meet everyday needs while strengthening their confidence and ability to make financial decisions.
