CM Shri Sai unveils statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda in Jashpur during his 150th birth anniversary year

Site to be known as Birsa Munda Chowk in Dondrahi village of Bagicha block; Rs 37 lakh announced for development works

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday unveiled a statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda at Dondrahi village in Bagicha block of Jashpur district as part of celebrations marking the tribal icon’s 150th birth anniversary year. Announcing that the site would henceforth be known as “Birsa Munda Chowk”, Shri Sai paid tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda, describing his life as an enduring struggle against injustice, exploitation and colonial rule, as well as a movement to protect Jal, Jungle and Zameen (water, forests and land).

Chief Minister said Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s sacrifice for tribal identity, dignity and rights continues to inspire generations across the country. He credited Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for giving national recognition to tribal heroes by declaring Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas.

To promote local development and socio-cultural activities, Shri Sai announced projects worth Rs 37 lakh, including Rs 15 lakh for a community hall at Baigatoli Karma, Rs 8 lakh for a stage at Kudmura Nando Toli, and Rs 7 lakh each for cultural and community platforms at Kudmura Patratoli (Diba Toli) and the Hanuman temple premises near Keshav Ghar.

Highlighting tribal welfare as a priority, Shri Sai said the Centre, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, is implementing initiatives such as the PM JANMAN Yojana and Dharti Aaba Gram Utkarsh Yojana to expand infrastructure in tribal regions. He said 6,661 villages in Chhattisgarh have been covered under these programmes, with a focus on roads, drinking water, housing, education and healthcare.

The Chief Minister said President Smt. Droupadi Murmu’s elevation to the country’s highest constitutional office symbolises the pride and empowerment of the tribal community. He also praised the work of the Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram in Jashpur for its contribution to tribal development.

Listing key developments, Shri Sai said over 6,000 Gram Panchayats now have Atal Digital Seva Kendras providing certificates and other citizen services, while the Chief Minister Helpline 1076 is ensuring time-bound grievance redressal. He added that electricity consumers are receiving relief through the Mukhyamantri Bijli Bill Payment Resolution Scheme, under which surcharges on pending power bills are being waived.

Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram’s National General Secretary Shri Yogesh Bapat also spoke about Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s life and contribution to the nation. The event was attended by Padma Shree recipient Shri Jageshwar Yadav, MLAs Smt. Gomti Sai and Smt. Raymuni Bhagat, Chhattisgarh Matikala Board Chairman Shri Shambhunath Chakravarty, Chhattisgarh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board Chairman Dr. Rampratap Singh, Jashpur Municipal’s Vice-Chairman Shri Yashpratap Singh Judev, public representatives, officials and a large number of villagers.
