Chief Minister Shri Sai Flags Off Science on Wheels to Take Hands-On Learning to Schools Across Chhattisgarh
Mobile science laboratory to bring space technology, robotics, sustainable development and water filtration closer to students
Raipur, August 27, 2026/ Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai flagged off the Science on Wheels vehicle today at the Camp Office in Bagia, launching a mobile science laboratory designed to bring practical science and technology education closer to school students across Chhattisgarh.
Appreciating the initiative, Shri Sai said children have a natural curiosity to explore and understand the world around them. It is important to channel this curiosity towards scientific thinking, experimentation and innovation. Science on Wheels will give students an opportunity to understand the concepts they learn in textbooks through practical experiments. This will encourage them to ask questions, experiment and seek scientific solutions to problems.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that science and technology are playing an increasingly important role in every sphere of life, while the future will be shaped by emerging technologies and innovation. Familiarising students with the practical aspects of science and technology during their school years will therefore prove valuable for their future. Such initiatives can also help identify young talent and encourage students to pursue science, research and innovation.
A key feature of Science on Wheels is its emphasis on learning by doing rather than limiting science education to theoretical knowledge. Scientific models, experiments and demonstrations will be taken directly to schools, allowing students to understand scientific principles in a simple, engaging and practical manner.
Students will be introduced to four key modules. The Space Technology module will acquaint them with the fascinating world of the universe and space science. Robotics will help develop an understanding of emerging technologies, innovation and future technical skills. The Sustainable Development module will promote awareness about environmental protection, responsible use of resources and building a better future. Through the Water Filtration module, students will explore clean water, water conservation and related scientific solutions through practical experiments.
Building a Lasting Connection with Science
The objective of Science on Wheels is not merely to demonstrate scientific experiments to students on a one-time basis, but to develop a sustained interest in science, innovation and technology. Through activities, experiments, models and demonstrations, the programme will create a learning experience that encourages children to ask questions, find answers and work on new ideas.
The initiative will also seek to strengthen scientific temper, problem-solving abilities, logical thinking, creativity and innovation among students. Early exposure to emerging technologies will help prepare young minds for the changing requirements of the future.
National Initiative Operating Across Three States
The project is being supported under an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology. Science on Wheels is a national initiative being implemented in Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh with the support of Plaksha University, IDYM Foundation and IIT Mandi.
In Chhattisgarh, the initiative places particular emphasis on taking practical science education closer to students. It seeks to foster scientific thinking among young minds, connect them with new technologies and innovation, and prepare them to contribute to the building of an empowered India through knowledge and science.
On the occasion, Smt. Kaushalya Sai, wife of the Chief Minister, Shri Rohit Vyas, Collector, Dr. Lal Umed Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police, Shri Abhishek Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of the Zila Panchayat, along with a large number of women from self-help groups and other dignitaries, were present.
