Chief Minister performs ‘Bhoomipujan’ for Health Infrastructure Projects Worth Over ₹ 103 Crore in Raipur

Construction of 200-Seat Student Hostel, Residential Complex and Expansion of Cancer Block

Raipur, July 6, 2026/ Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai performed ‘Bhoomipujan’ for health infrastructure development projects worth over ₹ 103 crore at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College, Raipur, today.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Shri Sai said that “a healthy Chhattisgarh is the cornerstone of a developed Chhattisgarh.” He stated that the State Government is continuously expanding healthcare facilities and that the new projects would significantly enhance medical education and healthcare services, benefiting patients, students and medical professionals alike.

The projects include the construction of a modern 200-seat hostel for students, expansion of the Cancer Building, and development of residential complexes for doctors and staff, along with other key infrastructure works.

Recalling his previous visit to the medical college, Shri Sai said students had requested the construction of a new hostel, a demand that the government had taken seriously and fulfilled by commencing the project. He added that the government had honoured most of its commitments made to the people during the past two and a half years and successfully translated “Modi Ki Guarantee” into reality.

Chief Minister further noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India has emerged as the world’s fourth-largest economy and is rapidly advancing towards the vision of a developed nation.

Emphasising that healthcare remains one of the government’s highest priorities, Shri Sai said that a developed Chhattisgarh can only be built on the foundation of a healthy population. He lauded the efforts of the Department of Health and Medical Education under the leadership of Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, congratulating the department’s officers and staff for steadily expanding healthcare facilities across the State.

Highlighting the Centre’s continued support to Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the Union Government had extended positive assistance for every major proposal, ranging from approval of the DM Cardiac Course to several other health projects. He also expressed hope that Chhattisgarh would soon receive an All India Institute of Ayurveda, which would provide fresh recognition to the State’s rich medicinal plant resources and Ayurveda.

Shri Sai further said that Bastar, now steadily emerging from the shadow of Left Wing Extremism, is progressing rapidly on the path of development. He noted that the Health Department has reached remote areas, conducting health screenings and providing treatment to lakhs of people through door-to-door outreach.

Calling upon medical students to serve beyond urban centres, he urged them to dedicate themselves to serving every corner of the State, from Surguja to Bastar, after completing their education. He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing world-class infrastructure, quality hostels and a modern academic environment for medical students.

Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sao described the projects, valued at more than ₹ 103 crore, as a historic milestone for the healthcare sector. He said the government is consistently working towards expanding quality medical education and healthcare services. Directing the Public Works Department and implementing agencies, he instructed them to complete all projects ahead of schedule while maintaining the highest quality standards.

Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said that Chhattisgarh is witnessing unprecedented transformation in healthcare and medical education. He highlighted the approval of five new medical colleges, a significant increase in nursing colleges, expansion of physiotherapy colleges, and large-scale initiatives to promote yoga and naturopathy.

He informed that construction of a 100-bed Yoga and Naturopathy Hospital and Research Centre spread over 10 acres is also progressing.

Mr. Jaiswal further said the State Government has revived and commenced the long-pending construction of medical colleges at Korba, Kanker and Mahasamund, while the Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS), Bilaspur, is undergoing major upgradation. He added that the DM Cardiac Course has already commenced and Chhattisgarh’s second-largest Heart Centre will soon be established in Jagdalpur.

Officials of the Health Department informed that the first project involves construction of a 200-seat modern hostel equipped with contemporary residential facilities for students, along with accommodation for doctors and staff.

Under the second project, the Cancer Building will be expanded from the second to the sixth floor. Spread across nearly 11,000 square metres, the expanded facility will house advanced laboratories, 64-bed wards, single rooms, intensive care units (ICUs) and state-of-the-art operation theatres, significantly enhancing specialised cancer treatment in the State.

The third project focuses on the expansion of the girls’ hostel, providing additional rooms, dormitories, a library, a recreation hall and other modern amenities to ensure a safe, comfortable and conducive residential environment for female students.

On the occasion, MLA Shri Purandar Mishra, CGMSC Chairman Shri Deepak Mhaske, Health Secretary Shri Amit Kataria, Commissioner, Medical Education Shri Ritesh Agrawal, Dean of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College Dr. Vivek Chaudhary, and Superintendent Dr. Santosh Sonkar were present, along with public representatives, doctors, medical students and a large number of citizens.
