BALCO Celebrates World Quality Week 2024, Fostering a Culture of Excellence
Korba, Balconagar, 27th November 2024 – Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), India’s iconic aluminium producer and a part of Vedanta Aluminium, commemorated World Quality Week with a series of initiatives based on this year’s theme, ‘From Compliance to Performance’. The events were aimed at deepening the understanding of quality principles, engaging over 500 employees and business partners, and fostering a culture of quality excellence that goes beyond mere compliance.
Blending education with engagement, the weeklong celebration included interactions with leaders, digital poster and slogan writing competitions, and quality-themes quizzes, highlighting the significance of quality. The event also felicitated the participants identifying them as Quality Champions. BALCO also organized an ‘Idea Generation’ campaign encouraging employees to share innovative solutions for enhancing quality in operations. Through an interesting edition of ‘Chai Pe Charcha’ (conversations over tea), BALCO encouraged its employees to discuss quality practices, inviting ideas and innovations for robust ground-level implementation.
Highlighting the importance of quality, Mr. Rajesh Kumar, CEO & Director of BALCO, shared, “Quality is the cornerstone of our success. This year’s theme, ‘From Compliance to Performance,’ reflects our commitment to ensuring the highest standards of quality across our operations. By fostering awareness and inspiring active engagement, we aim to elevate quality from a benchmark to a way of life.”
Reflecting on the activities, Mr. Narayan Gupta, a Process Technician from the smelter operations, shared, “Quality is key to every process at our operations, ensuring everything runs seamlessly. Participating in World Quality Week activities like Idea Generation enabled me to share practical solutions from my daily experiences. As someone who deals with maintenance of crucial plant processes, every small step that we take contributes towards creating a culture of quality.”
BALCO undergoes stringent quality assessments and benchmarking for its products. It also holds the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for seven key products, including Rolled Products, Wire Rods, and Primary Ingots. In addition to the BIS certifications, BALCO adheres to global standards, including ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System) for the production and supply of primary aluminium and alloys. Moreover, the in-house PoDFA (Porous Disk Filtration Apparatus) facility enhances product purity and reliability, exemplifying the company’s focus on precision and excellence.
